American-born Thai businessman William Heinecke{{Cite web|url=https://www.forbes.com/profile/william-heinecke/|title=William Heinecke|website=Forbes}} founded the hotel group in 1978, with the opening of the Royal Garden Resort Pattaya as its inaugural venture.
