List of WP:MILHIST articles without references, stood at 1,861 before the drive started and has already reduced by 40 or so. DYK LaTasha Barnes

Hello Dumelow,

Yes, I've finished going through the entire article to find needed citations and remove broken links. Sorry it took longer than anticipated.

Sincerely,

Wroliver (talk) 18:57, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Draft:LaTasha Barnes - Wikipedia

Hello Dumelow,

Thanks for the feedback. I will take care of those things soon, and let you know when I'm finished. Wroliver (talk) 13:59, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello Dumelow,

You had 3 flags for me in final section. Here's how I addressed them:

1-BS degree verification--the information lives on a PDF which is on her webpage at the University of Arizona, but I understand that we can't use PDFs. So, I eliminated that paragraph on her education, since her master's degree is mentioned elsewhere and verified.

2-Her 2021 Bessie Award now has a citation. I did not add a cite for the first sentence in the first awards paragraph, since both the 2021 and 2023 awards are cited immediately thereafter.

3-I found a different source for the Mad Hot Ball award; hopefully it is ok.

Let me know if anything else is needed, and thanks for your patience!

Wroliver (talk) 15:44, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Also, the "reply" button in my area of the DYK page is not working, and there is no "edit" button at the top of the section, which is why I have been using your talk page directly. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks, Wroliver (talk) 15:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi Wroliver, I've approved the hook about her having been a sergeant. It should now work its way through the system and appear on the main page at some point in the future. DYK is unfortunately set up a little differently to other pages. The nominations are on subpages such as Template:Did you know nominations/LaTasha Barnes so the usual reply links don't work. If you watch (click the star at the top) that page it will be noted a few days before it's due to appear on the main page. Good work on improving this article, it is in much better shape now. All the best - Dumelow (talk) 16:17, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

:Thanks so much for your help! This was my first Wikipedia article, and now I'm better informed on how to do a good job.

Night Hawk

Hi, in adding an infobox to Night Hawk I noticed "All five men below decks, an engineman, two trimmers and a cook, were drowned" - this is only four? Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:31, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

:Doh, thanks. I was missing a deckhand and have fixed this in the article. I've also added the CWGC link as a ref, as this is what confirms the positions. I can't remember how I stumbled across the story but the connection to the bombardment of Scarborough intrigued me; I had no idea that mines were laid in that same raid and went on to arguably have a more devastating impact. Plus these chaps having to go out on Christmas Day essentially in a fishing boat hoping to snag the mines and blow them up - Dumelow (talk) 16:55, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

Herbert Stewart

Hi Dumelow. I have just expended Herbert Stewart, a general who died from wounds sustained during the Gordon Relief Expedition. Not sure if he might be up your street to make something more of?! AA (talk) 22:26, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

:Oh, good work. I've been developing articles on minor actions in the Zulu War and creating Second Sekhukhune War has been on my to-do list for a while. I'll see if he's mentioned in any of my sources - Dumelow (talk) 08:10, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

::Cheers! Nice additions, he certainly had a very interesting career for someone so short-lived. I wonder if the article has enough legs for GA? AA (talk) 11:38, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

:::That's all I could find unfortunately. Oh, I would definitely say it's at GA level. Happy to help out with any queries you get - Dumelow (talk) 11:42, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

::::They're great additions to the article :) Awesome, I shall take it to GA at some point in the near future... though recently had a frustrating nom there that I withdrew out of sheer frustration about having to repeat myself!!! AA (talk) 13:00, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

The article James Kirkham Ramsbottom you nominated as a good article has passed File:Symbol support vote.svg; see Talk:James Kirkham Ramsbottom for comments about the article, and Talk:James Kirkham Ramsbottom/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. MOS:ORDER

Thank you for your interesting article on St Peter's Church, Stapenhill. If I may offer just one suggestion, it is to follow the MOS:SECTIONORDER guideline regarding the Coord template. It seems that certain mobile operating systems can't handle the Coord template being near the top of the article. and display the article incorrectly, which is why MOS:SECTIONORDER wants it placed either in the Infobox, or just above the Categories at the bottom of the page. Thanks, Abductive (reasoning) 10:33, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

:Thanks, I will try to remember; though I struggle with ordering the sections (notes, references, external links, nav templates) at the best of times. Seems like the kind of thing a bot should be able to pick up across the encyclopaedia? - Dumelow (talk) 11:49, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Rawlins

Hi, I've no experience with Rhodesians but thought I'd see what I could dig up. Per he served with the British Army in the Malayan Emergency. His Legion of Merit was awarded on 11 November 1973, by which point he was already a major-general. As a colonel he received a clasp to the Exemplary Service Medal in 1971 for 27 years service. He is pictured on the right in the image here. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 22:08, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

:Excellent work! Thanks so much, I will add these to the article. I've no great experience in the area. I think I created Rawlins and Bill Godwin via Guard Force (Rhodesia), which I think I noticed was missing after creating articles for a couple of recipients of the Grand Cross of Valour/Gold Cross of Zimbabwe - Dumelow (talk) 22:19, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Herbert Stewart

Hi Dumelow. Thanks for your edits on this article before Xmas. Was wondering if you fancied a joint GA nom for the article (I think FA is less likely, what do you think?)? AA (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

:Hi AA, I'm not editing much at the moment but happy to assist with a GA run. I've seen worse FAs! Just flicking through the article I will look to sort out something for St Leger Herbert to link to, he looks to have been notable for his work with Wolseley and as a war correspondent - Dumelow (talk) 05:06, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

::Excellent, would most certainly appreciate your input! I did think about a shot at FA, but wondered if the article was too short? Would be good to have an article for St Leger Herbert too, given his tragic affiliation with Stewart. AA (talk) 21:35, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

 • Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
 • An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in sticky decoration wrapper. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
 • An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
