WikiCup submissions, part 2

Hi History6042, thanks again for participating in the Cup. Unfortunately, I just received a complaint indicating that you were performing subpar reviews in order to claim FAC, FLC, or GAN points—specifically, that you were submitting reviews with exactly five pieces of feedback. For example, in Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Sakurai Prize/archive1, you suggested four minor grammatical changes; the fifth suggestion, which recommended swapping out an image, was the only substantial feedback in the review.

I know that I told you that we were not going to accept submissions with less feedback than that, but if you are doing superficial reviews with the bare minimum of feedback, that can be considered WP:GAMING. My concern is that, if you are not conducting a full review of the FAC, FLC, or GAN to the best of your ability, it lowers the quality of the reviews. As Lee said above, the goal of the WikiCup is to improve the encyclopedia and not to claim points; as such, overly short reviews don't help nominators whose FACs, FLCs, and GANs actually have substantial issues.

As such, I encourage you to go over your recent reviews. If the nomination is still open, I encourage you to either add more substantial feedback, or if that's not possible, write a paragraph explaining how the article or list meets the respective criteria. Otherwise, we may have to unfortunately reject some of your recent review submissions. I'm also going to ping my co-judges—@Cwmhiraeth, @Frostly, @Lee Vilenski and @Guerillero—so that they are aware. – Epicgenius (talk) 23:57, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

:Okay, @Epicgenius, I do not have time to fix them today, but if you could provide me with a list of the reviews with issues I can fix most/all of them tomorrow morning. Also, I did not know that grammatical changes didn't count, sorry about that, I will stop counting them from now on. History6042😊 (Contact me) 02:41, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

::@History6042, I did not mean to say that grammatical changes don't count; on the contrary, if you proposed 10 or 20 grammatical changes, these may amount to a substantive review in themselves. I meant to say that they may count less than content-related comments. Five substantial comments is the bare minimum for a review, but even these may not count for points if the only things you're suggesting are minor grammatical comments. – Epicgenius (talk) 04:27, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

:::Okay, so I will assume that grammatical changes count as 1/3 of a review. Also, do you know which specific reviews are subpar? If so please tell me. History6042😊 (Contact me) 13:05, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

::::Forgot to ping @Epicgenius. History6042😊 (Contact me) 13:06, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

:::::I will check again tomorrow and let you know. The specific complaint I received mentioned Sakurai Prize. However, I suggest that you look at all the reviews you performed over the last 2-3 weeks and see if there is any feedback you can add. We aren't looking for you to make a certain number of comments - so you don't need to make 15 grammatical comments - but we do need you to review the entire article to the best of your ability. Epicgenius (talk) 13:25, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

When using the new Michelin key template, is there a way for it to only show the relevant ratings for the specific page? When using the key it shows all 3 ratings but in some pages only 1 star or 1 and 2 star ratings are applicable. Expandinglight5 (talk) 21:35, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter

The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Gog the Mild}} with 1,168 round points, mainly from 4 featured articles and 4 good articles on old military history, in addition to an assortment of GA and FA reviews.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Generalissima}} with 1,095 round points, mainly from 2 FAs, 2 featured lists, 8 GAs, and 16 Did You Know articles mainly on historical topics.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|BeanieFan11}}, with 866 round points from 20 GAs, 23 DYKs, and 2 In the News articles primarily about athletes.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Sammi Brie}}, with 846 round points from 16 GAs about radio and TV stations, 45 GA reviews, and 3 DYKs.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Hey man im josh}}, with 816 round points from 5 FLs about sports and Olympic topics, 46 FL reviews, 3 ITN articles, and a large number of bonus points.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|MaranoFan}}, with 815 round points primarily from 3 FAs and 1 GA about music, in addition to 9 article reviews.

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
