Minor edits
Rutgers Scarlet Knights football
Please refrain from inserting Rutgers Athletic Dept. propaganda as fact. There simply is no money on hand for Phase 2, none. It will not happen as planned. Those are the facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.38.82.172 (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Re. Philip Perry page
Can you take a look again at the edits I did today on the Philip Perry page? I shifted the disputed material to a "Controversy" section, but if the Washington Monthly is not deemed a reputable source by most, then the whole thing should be excised. I used your list of concerns as a checklist to reference any citations needed but only on material posted by me originally. (I think.) With the exception of the material from Washington Monthly entitled "Dick Cheney's Dangerous Son-In-Law." If there is a general concensus that that source is too tainted to be of use, we should probably just excise that section. 138.237.128.86 (talk) 17:58, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
:I took a quick look at the edits you had made, regarding the "Controversy" section, and the references you provided. At first glance it looks just fine, but I will read the whole article over again to take in the finer details asap. As soon as I get to it I will leave more detailed comments on the Talk page of the article "Philip Perry."
:Also, thank you not only for the edits you have made (which were very quickly done too!), but also for being so accommodating about this whole issue.

- BTW, I went ahead and deleted the section of the Philip Perry page that Gcdhsofficial felt was politically motivated. I wasn't sure if you were waiting for me, or if I was waiting for you. If I erred, please revert the edit if you had meant for it to remain until Nov. 5 deletes. There is still one more chunk of info on there about DHS and EPA that is neither sourced (now) or coherent, so that can be axed also. Do you want me to do this, or will you do that?Phoebe13 (talk) 14:46, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Re. source formatting
Related to the edits above, can you tell me the steps to follow or refer me to something that will explain how to format the references in the way you edited them yesterday? Is the rule to always provide the hyperlink, or what? many thanks....138.237.128.86 (talk) 19:31, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
:I find the best resource for various reference styles is the page for Wikipedia:Citation templates. There are a bunch of different styles for references depending on the Manual of Style used by a particular publication, but on Wikipedia we don't have to remember the default style that needs to be used here. Instead it is simply sufficient to use one of the citation templates and essentially "fill out the form." Wikipedia automatically takes care of the formatting. (Link to the Wikipedia:Manual of Style.)
:Give it a shot, either by practicing in the main Sandbox, or with an actual article and repeatedly hitting the "Show Preview" button. (The latter method for practice is what I usually use, but of course it is discouraged to prevent accidental editing of articles! Haha.)
:One caveat: if you want to use a reference several times in an article you really just have to write out the complete reference just once, i.e., the first time you need to use it. So long as you provide a "name" for the reference that first time, you can simply refer to the reference by the "name" every time you need to use it afterwards. Here's an example:
:
class="wikitable" |
style="white-space:nowrap;"
|Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.Test reference #1.Nam scelerisque. Suspendisse auctor congue lorem. |
:I also have a small collection (an abbreviated version of the templates) on my own user page (in case it would be of any help to you). Please let me know if I can be of any more help.

It might be wise to go slowly so editors can review changes. Wikispan (talk) 08:13, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
:Wikispan, thank you for your suggestion. I will try my best to do so. To be on the safe side I will be providing year-by-year edit notes on the talk page of the article.
:Also, for your reference, I have added several notes to the talk page of that article before I start the cleanup.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 17:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
