{{Donald Trump series}}

The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States took place on Monday, January 20, 2025. Due to "freezing temperatures" and "high winds", it was held inside the United States Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C. It was the 60th U.S. presidential inauguration and the second inauguration of Trump as U.S. president, marking the commencement of his second and final nonconsecutive term as U.S. president, the four-year term of JD Vance as vice president, and the second ever nonconsecutive re-inauguration for a U.S. president, after the second inauguration of Grover Cleveland in 1893. Trump's first inauguration was exactly eight years earlier, on January 20, 2017.

The event included a swearing-in ceremony, a signing ceremony, an inaugural luncheon, a first honors ceremony, and then a procession and parade at Capital One Arena. Inaugural balls were held at various venues before and after the inaugural ceremonies. The Capitol rotunda can seat approximately 600 people; the number of attendees has not been disclosed.{{Cite web |last=Vigdor |first=Neil |date=January 20, 2025 |title=Trump’s Second Inauguration in Pictures |url=https://www.nytimes.com/card/2025/01/21/us/politics/trump-inauguration-photos |access-date=May 2, 2025 |newspaper=The New York Times}}

Planning

Held on the third Monday of January, the inauguration was on the same day as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which marked the third time an inauguration occurred on the same date as the holiday, following the second inaugurations of Bill Clinton in 1997 and Barack Obama in 2013 (January 21).{{cite web |title=2025 Presidential Inauguration |url=https://www.nps.gov/subjects/inauguration/schedule-of-events.htm |website=NPS.gov |publisher=National Park Service |access-date=November 9, 2024}}{{Cite web |date=January 18, 2013 |title=Inauguration Day Marks Rare Intersection With King |url=https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/inauguration-day-marks-rare-intersection-with-king/ |access-date=November 14, 2024 |work=CBS News |publisher=Associated Press}} On January 17, Trump announced the inauguration ceremony would be moved inside to the Capitol rotunda due to expected cold weather, like the public second inauguration of Ronald Reagan on January 21, 1985.{{Cite web |title=Trump's inauguration to be moved indoors |url=https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/17/politics/inauguration-moving-indoors-cold-weather/index.html |date=January 17, 2025 |website=CNN|access-date=January 17, 2025|first1=Kate|last1=Sullivan|first2=Kaitlan|last2=Collins|authorlink2=Kaitlan Collins|authorlink=Kate Sullivan}}{{Cite web |title=Trump moves inauguration ceremony indoors due to freezing temperatures |url=https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-inauguration-2025-indoors-weather/ |date=January 17, 2025 |website=CBS News|first1=Kathryn|last1=Watson |first2=Fin|last2=Gómez|access-date=January 25, 2025}}{{Cite web |last1=Kinnard |first1=Meg |last2=Beaumont |first2=Thomas |date=January 17, 2025 |title=The inauguration is moving indoors.
