This constituency came into existence in 1977, following the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies. Between the period of 1977 and 2009, this constituency was reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidates.[https://web.archive.org/web/20121104072400/http://www.hindu.com/2009/03/25/stories/2009032554830500.htm With the addition of three Assembly segments–..] The Hindu, 25 March 2009.
