Mineola Station's South Platform
I noticed this one quote here on your article on Mineola (LIRR station);
"There are two side platforms, though the south platform is configured to accommodate an island platform if a third track on the Main Line is constructed."
Are you sure this was configured to handle the former LIRR line between Mineola & West Hempstead (LIRR station)? I've been through the station, and know about that aspect of it's history, but never got a good look at the platform you're talking about. ----DanTD 17:04, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
:I was merely saying nothing more than what the sentence says: that the eastbound platform should have enough space to allow for the third mainline track. The logical expectation is it would become an island platform because it's a major station. I have to find the source for that, perhaps from the documents from the 3rd track project, but I remember reading about that. According to [http://www.lirrhistory.com/feb2001/ebendmin.jpg this picture] (from [http://www.lirrhistory.com/minwhemp.html]), the eastbound platform was extended over the ROW to West Hempstead. I don't know anything about history of the station layout other than the present; whether or not there had been a third track previously or if the platform was in a different location. Maybe this answers your question, maybe not. Tinlinkin (talk) 14:20, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

NYCS Infobox Template
Hi,
I really like the changes you have been making to the Infoboxs. One question... Is there a way to suppress the "Other Information," "Traffic," and "Station succession" sections if empty? It seems silly to have a "Station succession" section in the top level infobox for a station complex, such as 34th Street–Herald Square (New York City Subway), when it is listed in each section's infobox for the appropriate line. Acps110 (talk) 03:45, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
:The "Traffic" header should have been suppressed if there were no parameters specifying it. There is "type = complex" to add for the top station complex infoboxes, that would leave out the "Station succession" header. If I really wanted to, I would add a parameter like "other" to leave out "Other information", but since Template:Infobox Station does not have something like that, it's not high on my list of improvements.
:I'm also getting to 34th Street-Herald Square. Generally I'm doing the lines in alphabetical order north-south and now I'm up to F. When I get to station complexes, I usually don't touch the upper box until I get to the final line that serves the station. So when I'm up to N, that's when I'll get to the Herald Square complex. But you're more than welcome to help me if you want, if you've been following what I have been doing. Tinlinkin (talk) 04:03, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
::Very cool! Thanks for that. Acps110 (talk) 04:13, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Belmont Park LIRR and Richmond Cty Ballpark SIR articles
Thanks for clarifying my recent edits to these two articles. I had thought a previous editor was a bit overzealous in categorizing them as "closed", and perhaps I was a bit overzealous myself in undoing those changes. I guess the NYCT service cuts were undone on 5/11 (W/Z lines, Lower Manhattan J/M/Z, SIR Ballpark) but the LIRR service cuts were not. Thanks for catching that. -Sme3 (talk) 12:17, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
:I don't think the MTA has formally canceled any of the service changes in its latest board meeting. But they say they will do that in the upcoming (regular) meeting. (They still plan to make other cuts, such as [http://weblogs.amny.com/entertainment/urbanite/blog/2009/05/bus_service_suffers_with_drive.html here]). Tinlinkin (talk) 01:23, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Long Island Rail Road Stations article
I see that you think the article Long Island Rail Road Stations should be merged to List of Long Island Rail Road stations, and I agree. But would it be acceptable to add all the detail of the first article into the second? ----DanTD (talk) 17:42, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
:The best guidance for the format of a station list [article] would be to look at other featured lists of railway stations, such as List of London Underground stations or List of Caltrain stations. That said, I would have redirected Long Island Rail Road Stations to the list as I saw little value in what was written. (It is a valid redirect by itself.) But I relented on doing that when I saw you tackling the article. List of Long Island Rail Road stations needs a much better lead section, so that's the best thing I would extract. The structures of the stations can be incorporated into the list. So those are my suggestions, I guess. Tinlinkin (talk) 23:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
::Well, I'm taking it on piece by piece. I've kept a great deal of the lead section hidden, because there are parts of it from the original writer that I just don't understand. I also got rid of the chapter on the City Terminal Zone, but I'm not sure I should have.----DanTD (talk) 00:47, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
:::It's your choice whether you want to do a traditional merge or start from scratch. (As I hinted earlier, I would have done the latter.) As for that "City Terminal Zone" section, I would include some mention of the City Terminal Zone as it is not technically a branch and it constitutes the bulk of the ridership. (It is certainly not "10 terminal stations".) A paragraph mentioning the key stations of the CTZ and their significance is probably appropriate; anything further is more appropriate for City Terminal Zone. That paragraph would also mention the terminal stations at the eastern ends, special-use stations and National Register of Historic Places stations (if there are any; I know you're the expert on that. ;-) )You may ask the original writer what was his/her intention in creating Long Island Rail Road Stations and not adding to the list article in the first place... Tinlinkin (talk) 01:38, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
::::Oh, there are certainly five LIRR stations on the NRHP, and I wrote articles for all of them. A chapter on historic stations would be a good idea. About the sentence that puzzles me...
The railroad spans both sides of the island from the westernmost Station (In Manhattan itself, Penn Station, sill on long island, Long Island City (The LIRR's Queens Terminal)to Montauk Station on the tip of the southern fork.
::::This had a lot of misspelled and non-capitalized words and grammatic errors before I got a hold of it, and I missed some as you can see there. More than likley I'll mix the text from there with my own stuff. ----DanTD (talk) 02:56, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
:::::About the City Terminal Zone; I just checked out the article, and I only saw 10 stations listed that are active. I think the original writer called them terminal stations because they're in that specific zone. Eh, more work to do anyhow. ----DanTD (talk) 03:52, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
=Finally working on it=
I probably should've created a whole new sandbox with both articles combined, but let me know what you think of the current version of the LIRR list so far. I know it needs more work, and I'm going to do it anyway. ----DanTD (talk) 19:09, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
:I am going to tweak the format. The only subsections I would prefer to have (other than the usual end sections like "References" and "External links"...) are "Stations" (or "Open stations") and "Closed stations." (I'll separate the two for the reason of clarity of scope.) What I said above this section about prose in the lead is that the prose should be brief but succinct because I don't think subsections of prose that are not within the list are appropriate for a Wikipedia list. (I say this as I look forward to Wikipedia:Featured lists; see also Wikipedia:Featured list criteria.)
:When I'm done with my first changes tonight (you'll know when I'm done because I will work on other articles), you can do the next substantial thing for which I don't have the resources for: the inline referencing within the LIRR list. If you're able to provide specific dates for the opening and closing of stations, that would be great. Tinlinkin (talk) 04:41, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
::Would you care if I elimiated more of the hidden text? ----DanTD (talk) 00:23, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
:::Not at all. I have one more note. Now that I have tried to understand the premise of "Stations of history," it seems over the top for a casual reader. While the preservation of stations is an issue, I am unsure if a full explanation of preservation efforts is appropriate for here or elsewhere. (I admit I am not a fan of station houses.) And, of course, references would be helpful (and eventually needed if the text remains) so I can understand the issue myself. Tinlinkin (talk) 05:56, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

[[List of New York City Subway stations]]
Looks good, so only a few things:
- I noticed that you proposed a split of the list. This is probably a good idea, but you may want to bring it up at WT:FLC to make sure that the split-off articles and their formats would meet the recently revised FL criteria. Personally, I like the alphanumeric method best, but this is only because it makes the most sense to me.
- :I'll compose a message there. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Attention to MOSDASH is needed: Separated items that have internal spaces need spaces between the dashes (for example "Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line"-->Broadway – Seventh Avenue Line
- :I have no problem in applying that to this article; but do the names of the articles need to be changed? That would entail changes to many articles (say ~100) which I don't want to do right at this moment. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Could you convert the ISO dates to regualar formats. User {{tl|dts}} for sorting.
- :I've always wondered if there was an efficient way to do that. I have learned something today. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Doesn't seem to be much sense in putting a picture in the See also section.
- :That was before there was a lead and a lot of prose. (For a long time it was a bare list arranged by subway line.) If you need to know how it got there, see User talk:Jim.henderson#Photos for List of New York City Subway stations. I'll be revisiting images shortly. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Generally, numbers under ten should be spelled out.
- :Noted. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Good luck! Dabomb87 (talk) 01:48, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
:Responses are above. I may not be editing the list right away but I will follow your suggestions. Again, thanks for taking time to review the list! Tinlinkin (talk) 06:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
::Okay, I noticed that Cathedral Parkway–110th Street (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line) is on the numerical list, and should be moved to the alphabetical list. I also think some stations should be combined into a single box, like 14th Street-Union Square (New York City Subway), Broadway Junction (New York City Subway), Times Square (New York City Subway), Times Square-42nd Street (New York City Subway), and all Canal Street stations except for Broadway-Seventh Avenue and Eight Avenue. ----DanTD (talk) 14:31, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
:::If the MTA says there are 468 stations, there should be 468 entries in the list. As if matters concerning transfer stations are not complicated enough, combining them as you say would need lengthy explanation for individual stations, in the form of notes, that I think would lead to confusion or inconsistency. As for Cathedral Parkway, it should be in alphabetical. But it is paired with 110th Street–Cathedral Parkway (IND Eighth Avenue Line), and that page should be moved to reverse name per the NYCTA map. NYCS Station Disambiguation
Hey,
I finished adding all of the links to your station disambiguation page! I like your addition of the Boroughs; that helps clarify a lot. Do you need any assistance on the split of the NYCS stations page? Acps110 (talk) 22:59, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
:Thanks so much! I don't know about you, but I found that whole disambig process to be boring when I was doing it; however, it's a necessary evil and your interest helped move it along. I don't know how the disambiguation list will appear on the list of stations page, but I see it as being links to disambiguation pages with the boroughs. As for the split, I'm getting to it. My Internet access had problems the past 1.5 weeks and it was fixed a few days ago. (I was annoyed when I couldn't edit Wikipedia from the Queens Central Library. Apparently so much wiki abuse comes from there.) I should be posting the pages to article space within the week. Tinlinkin (talk) 04:15, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
::Yes, it was mindlessly boring to add all those links. ;-) I did have the thought to put a hat-note on each of the station pages and create a disamb page for each grouping. Would that be useful? Some stations, such as DeKalb Avenue already have these hat-notes. Acps110 (talk) 00:59, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
:::I would have been inclined to do that before, but not now. WP:NAMB says do not add a hatnote for an article that is not ambiguous. So I would just create a page with the form

NYCS Stations - list split
What is your intention for indicating Transfer stations, Terminals, Last stop in Bronx, etc. within List of New York City Subway stations in the Bronx? Were you going to color the station names like the legend? Use asterisks and other symbols? Both?
Also; Very nice post on Jimmy Slade's page. He seems to be making some progress towards being a better editor. He has responded to several of my requests now (by editing habits, not discussion), where he was very hostile to me before. I hope that he will begin discussing changes to establish consensus. Acps110 (talk) 18:13, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
:I am trying to take small steps in making the station lists featured lists. I'm imitating lists like List of Washington Metro stations and List of Bay Area Rapid Transit stations, which are featured lists that point out transfer stations and termini. The colors and symbols will be added once I tinker around Template:NYCS row. The "Last station in the Bronx" idea I came up with, because these four lists will be interconnected and also shows that the lines/services will not terminate in the Bronx. But I fear that is somehow going to be confusing, so I should ask for comment on that. [Related note: [http://secondavenuesagas.com/2009/10/23/quiz-name-the-subway-stations-in-manhattan This] is just too much of a coincidence! I was going to do Queens, but Manhattan's gotta be next!]
:As for Jimmy, I remember reading somewhere that he said English is not his native language. Make an effort to communicate in English or your native tongue. It's my job to understand you somehow, and vice-versa. I just don't want good-faith page moves to be reverted without a reason. And that's for any Wikipedia article. Since I should act in good faith, although I disagree with his many cosmetic-appearing edits that look tendentious to me, those edits don't rise to vandalism since nothing of substance is changed. Tinlinkin (talk) 00:44, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
::Ok, thanks for the help about what it's going to look like. I like the "Last station in the Bronx" idea too. Maybe change the wording slightly to include, "Service continues to Manhattan."
:I just don't want good-faith page moves to be reverted without a reason.
::Very well said, that's been a stress inducer for me too! Acps110 (talk) 02:39, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
:::I just noticed that you combined the entries for 161st Street – Yankee Stadium and 149th Street – Grand Concourse. I do want to emphasize the difference between MTA and other station counts. So I prefer the previous format which had 468 (actually 467) table rows. In your version, how will you handle Fulton Street / Broadway – Nassau Street? I was going to add footnotes like "The two sets of platforms at 149th Street – Grand Concourse are considered to be one transfer station by international standards." Tinlinkin (talk) 04:14, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
::::I went ahead and separated the stations. The colors/symbols also fit better in this format. Tinlinkin (talk) 07:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
:::::I combined those complexes because they have the same name at each platform level. Also, I was just following the form of some of the station complexes on the current page. I don't mind that you put it back, I understand why. They will be listed as complexes on the "main" stations page anyway after the split.
:::::(By the way, the Bronx stations test page loads A LOT faster than the current huge page. This is a VERY good thing!) Acps110 (talk) 02:10, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
NYC subway diagram
Sorry, I'm really busy with work and won't have time to fix it in the near future.
That said, I'm happy to provide you with guidance on the map:
- Transfer: I use the boxes to show when transfers between different stations are available, but don't distinguish between cross-platform transfers and other transfers, because it overcrowds the map. I only show stop patterns.
- Regional rail connection: the 125/Lex station is a long avenue block away, as is the Flushing LIRR.
- Airport connections: I show only the simplest ways to get to the airport. Deliberate design choice, as people looking at the map don't know how to get to the airport in the first place. Sure, you can get to JFK from Ozone Park on the bus, but it's a lot slower than the Airtrain.
- Williamsburg Bridge: No space to add a label for the Williamsburg Bridge because of the Delancey/Essex station complex.
- Tramway: doesn't connect with any trains, so it's not shown. Thought about it, though.
- Adding boundary lines: was limited by time and wanted to get it off before my work schedule took over my life. Also, the geography is purposely vague to prevent people from trying to navigate the city using the diagram.
- 7 Extension/2 Av Subway: They were building the Second Avenue Subway when my grandmother was in college. I'm not going to jinx it.
- Creating new borough files: Sorry, I'm just too busy. But someone at the Graphics Lab should be able to do it for you. It's just a matter of cropping the SVG.

Thanks for your comments about User:Jimmy Slade on ANI. [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents&diff=329797143&oldid=329797127] Very well said. I included the page move war in my evidence page. I was increasingly viewing his aesthetic edits as disruption. His reversions of where I removed the line templates from the lead section of several articles, made me take action. I explained in the edit summary why, but he reverted anyway. Clearly disruption without discussion. Acps110 (talk) 03:55, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
:And I thank you, too, for having more of a backbone than I do. :) As User:Tanthalas39 said, "As it turns out, editing an English-language encyclopedia takes a certain level of fluency in the English language; this editor almost certainly falls far short of this level." Confusion with ''American Idol'' template
Hi User:Tinlinkin,
I read the comments on the talk page for the Idol Alumni template, so I don't mean to annoy you because a lot of people have been asking you for requests.
That rule in the policy, does that include American Idols on Broadway (for example Tamyra Gray)?
We have to have make a clear understanding and make a better policy that everyone agrees on and then as you said make a note on the top of the article.
I think personally, even the Idol's that were expected to win but didn't and who released any album(s) that even had one hit (such as Tamyra Gray, Melinda Doolittle, and Kimberley Locke) that didn't make the finales, as they are, in my opinion Idol top renowned memories, although I don't think its WP:POV because they were expected to win by millions of fans and the judges, and also because I liked Jordin Sparks better that season NOT Melinda.
Thanx!
ATC . Talk 00:29, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
:When an AI contestant headlines a Broadway show, the show's producers often market their name in order to sell tickets because of name recognition, i.e. "Tamyra Gray, now performing in Rent, the hit musical..." Living in New York City, I can attest to that. If the show profits from that, it's a noteworthy accomplishment for the contestant, in my opinion, e.g. the contestant can be added to the template. But other editors, with respect to them, do not like to think outside the box (content with the current status quo) or simply disagree. As I said on the template talk page, I sense editors fear a slippery slope, but I reject that because each person can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and consensus is not going to apply to all candidates.

User:Aspects, the current maintainer of the template, recently and currently requires each addition of a contestant that doesn't fall under the current criteria, and that's fine. But he has included Kimberley Locke [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:American_Idol&diff=291823794&oldid=291703387] and Constantine Maroulis [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:American_Idol&diff=291448015&oldid=291368358][http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:American_Idol&diff=291086865&oldid=291086355] before. The main objector of those contestants (and proposer of the current requirements) was User:23prootie, who is currently blocked. What I get from this is Aspects wants to discuss things first before making any changes. So I think you should continue the discussion on Template talk:American Idol and officially add your comments there. Tinlinkin (talk) 02:15, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "{{mono|reviewer}}" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:52, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Template:NYCS Herald Square
I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with {{tl|NYCS Herald Square}} and the embeded {{tl|NYCS Broadway}}. It is rendering strangely, like there is a closing tag missing somewhere. The Herald Square template is used in both the lead section and Subway stations section on 34th Street (Manhattan). Help! Acps110 (talk • contribs) 00:58, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
:I did not see any error with either template. Did [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:NYCS_Herald_Square&diff=371261137&oldid=369251265 this edit] by another user help? (I apologize for not responding sooner.) Tinlinkin (talk) 05:53, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
::Yes, it did. There was a newline between the end of the template and the noinclude tag! Acps110 (talk • contribs) 12:35, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Subway articles
I saw the kind message that you left on my talk page. Unfortunately...no, I am not contemplating a return to Wikipedia at this time. I did appreciate working with people who, like yourself, knew what they were doing. But the "anyone can edit" system also requires you to work with many who do not, and at some point I decided I was ready to move on. Marc Shepherd (talk) 21:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome [http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/first_saturdays.php First Saturdays] program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be '[http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/seductive_subversion/ Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968]', and the accompanying "[http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/seductive_subversion/wiki/ WikiPop]" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

It is that time of year, where you do your magic in updating all the infoboxes of each of the subway station figures that have just come out today. Thanks. Rockies77 (talk) 02:35, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
