Me

I am Pete Boyd. I write Wikipedia articles about photographers and photography, and try to keep any photography-related articles in some semblance of order. I also write and work on various biographies, articles about art, music, current affairs, tech, etc. I also review draft articles that are submitted through the Articles for Creation process, perform New Page Patrol of new directly-created articles, and take part in the Articles for Deletion process assessing whether or not to delete.

My contributions, described in someone else's words: "...now the page is clearly stronger because of your encouragement/edits. I really appreciate it! It's lovely to have folks like you making so many wikipedia pages for photographers and photography-related folks" – [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ALopifalko&type=revision&diff=850920206&oldid=850663759 18 July 2018]

(In the past I occasionally used the account Pete.M.Boyd, to upload photographs to Wikimedia Commons so they were attributed to a real name for establishing ownership. I will only use that account on occasion in future for the sake of security as per WP:SOCKLEGIT.)

Wikipedia editing reflected beyond Wikipedia

{{Collapse top|General}}

  • 2012 – After I'd created Wonga.com, the company Wonga began toning the article down, removing some of the claims about their unfair business practices. I did not know enough about economics to refute their persistent changes, so I did nothing and intended to learn about economics. Eventually other people noticed and The Guardian [http://www.theguardian.com/business/2012/nov/20/mp-demands-apology-tweets-wonga took up the story]. Their revelations became big news in the media.
  • 9 October 2013 – The articles '[http://www.dailydot.com/entertainment/old-crow-medicine-show-elaborate-wikipedia/ Old Crow Medicine Show has the longest, strangest Wikipedia page in music]' at The Daily Dot and [http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2013/10/longest-band-wikipedia-pages-old-crow.php This Band's Wikipedia Page Is Somehow Longer Than The Who's] – at the Phoenix New Times blog – "Complaints from a number of Wikipedians have led to the page being flagged by administrators. A disclaimer at the top of the page says the article "may contain an excessive amount of intricate detail," employ a style that does not reflect Wikipedia's encyclopedia tone, and may "be too long to read and navigate comfortably."" I recognised the issue with this article, set [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Old_Crow_Medicine_Show&diff=565719619&oldid=565236388 an example of how it could be drastically slimmed down], and added those flags mentioned above.
