• World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) released Bam Neely, D-Lo Brown, Gavin Spears, Jim Korderas, Kevin Thorn, Matt Cappotelli, Mike Kruel, Mickie Henson, Ron Simmons, Sgt. Slaughter, Tim White, and Val Venis from their contracts on January 9 as part of a budget cut.
• TNA reported on January 10 that Christy Hemme had injured her neck, and that she would require surgery. She was scheduled to face Awesome Kong for the TNA Women's Knockout Championship at Genesis; this match was replaced by a Six-woman tag team match.
• At TNA Genesis on January 11:
• Alex Shelly defeated Chris Sabin in a tournament final singles match to win the TNA X Division Championship

• On March 1, Pro Wrestling Noah announced that they had signed a new television deal with Samurai Television.
• On March 2:

:*World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that they had signed an agreement with Fox Turkey to broadcast Friday Night SmackDown across Turkey.

:*On Raw:

::*Randy Orton announced that he would use his opportunity to challenge for a World Championship that he won at the Royal Rumble to face Triple H for his WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXV.

::*Shawn Michaels defeated Vladimir Kozlov in a singles match to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXV, in the process ending the near-eleven-month undefeated streak of Kozlov in televised singles competition.

::*Bill Watts was announced as the fifth inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009.

• "The Boogeyman" Marty Wright was released from his WWE contract on March 4.
• On March 6, Sonjay Dutt officially announced his contract release from TNA.
• It was reported on March 7 that Kaleb O'Neal had been released from his WWE developmental contract.

• A.J. Styles won the TNA Legends Championship by defeating defending champion Booker T, and by doing so becoming TNA's first ever Grand Slam Champion.
• Suicide defeated defending TNA X Division Champion Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal in an Ultimate X match to win the title.
• On March 17:

:*It was confirmed via WWE.com that The Von Erichs were the sixth inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009.

:*At a set of Friday Night SmackDown tapings:

::*Montel Vontavious Porter defeated Shelton Benjamin to win the WWE United States Championship; this match aired on March 20.

::*Gail Kim made her return to WWE by attacking Maryse and Michelle McCool; this segment aired on March 27.

• It was reported by a Nielsen Media Research ratings report that the March 19 broadcast of TNA Impact! earned a 1.34 television rating, the highest number the promotion has ever drawn.

1. Consider expanding an article from the project's list of stub articles and nominating it at Did You Know?. The project's goal is to have 100 total DYKs by the end of the year, and we are currently on 74.
2. Avoid using dirtsheets as sources. Adhere to WP:RS when adding information with a source to articles. For a list of reliable and unreliable wrestling-related sources see Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Style guide#Sources.
3. When editing an article, use the edit summary to provide a brief summary of your edits; this helps users understand what was changed in the article.
4. All Wikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point-of-view, representing fairly, and as far as possible without bias, all significant views that have been published by reliable sources.
5. The project's New Year's Resolutions are listed here, and a list of topics that are close to Good topic status is listed here. Consider helping by achieving an aim listed or by improving an article on the Topics list to Good Article status.
