I started editing Wikipedia in October 2010 and was initially helped by AaronY.
At first I worked on writing and enlarging regional articles about Wales, where I come from. Then I moved on to articles about animals and plants covered by the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Tree_of_Life Tree of Life Project], especially marine life and insects. I try to write articles on species which have no current entry but which have a red wikilink from some other article. I have expanded many stubs into more comprehensive articles, as well as improving over fifty articles to GA standard and more than fifteen to FA, many of these being collaborative efforts on major taxa.
Articles I have started, expanded from stubs or brought to GA or FA

File:DYK Barnstar blinky 01-02.gif Thank you for your work in evaluating articles that are submitted for review so they can be mentioned in the DYK section of Wikipedia’s Main Page. I have often wondered why reviewers often don't get accolades for their work since they often put in as much time as those who improve content. The effort needed to participate in this area of Wikipedia is significant. I don't think most other editors realize what a service you are doing to help showcase new, expanded or recently promoted GA articles. Barbara

style="vertical-align: middle; padding: 3px;" | I'm sorry to see the trouble you're having with DYK. If it means anything I've not bothered with DYK in a long time now, as articles usually end up being targetted. Overall you're a very valuable contributor to wikipedia, and given your workload, errors are inevitable from even the best editors. What they don't understand is that the work you do is really among the most important on the site, general quality improvement, which not enough people are doing. So people should be trying to help you, not deter you. I hope my contests anyway will be enough to keep up your motivation for editing. |style="vertical-align: middle; padding: 5px;" | 120px |style="vertical-align: middle; padding: 3px;" | I'm really excited about the prospect of a high-level general interest article like Sea becoming a featured article! I know, I wasn't able to support (nor oppose), and I do hope the discrepancy (between what most articles seem to mean when they link to "Sea" and what the article mainly concerns) is eventually resolved. But I wish all the best for the article, sincerely. Also, I notice that desert is a GAN, and I am very tempted to review... but "desert" is such a broad article with so many diverse facets that it's intimidating for me even to review (and I think other reviewers feel the same). I can only imagine the work it took to get it into the great shape that it's in. Thanks for improving such important articles! All the best, – Quadell (talk) 11:19, 17 September 2013 (UTC) |
